Press Release

Queensrÿche, the internationally renowned prog metal band from Seattle, will perform the entirety of their “Operation: Mindcrime I” and “II” albums for the very first time in the UK via a 10-date June 2008 UK tour. This epic theatrical prog metal extravaganza will take in three hours, and will include an intermission, and in addition to the core members of the band, will feature actors re-enacting the storyline behind both of these compelling albums.

Commented singer Geoff Tate: “This is the most extensive stage show we have ever put together. Working with the actors and creating the different scenes helped us to really tell the story. Between ritualistic execution, working prostitutes, motorcycle crashes and everything in between, we are able to really draw the audience in to the story.”

The dates are as follows:

June 13 – Glasgow, UK – Academy
June 14 – Newcastle, UK – City Hall
June 15 – Leeds, UK – University
June 17 – Manchester, UK – Academy
June 18 – Wolves, UK – Civic Hall
June 20 – Norwich, UK – UEA
June 21 – Cambridge, UK – Corn Exchange
June 22 – London, UK – Indigo
June 24 – Bristol, UK – Colston Hall
June 25 – Southampton, UK – Guildhall

In 2006 the band performed the entirety of both albums on a tour of North America to sell-out audiences. The marathon show included a full over-the-top, theatrical production complete with surround sound, video imagery and actors portraying the concept albums’ characters onstage, as they were originally intended.

In the grand tradition of all captivating theatrical rock extravaganzas (THE WHO’s “Tommy”, and PINK FLOYD’s “The Wall”), QUEENSRŸCHE’s “Operation: Mindcrime I” and “II” is not just a typical rock’n’roll concert. Combined with the core members of the band, the production is a totally explosive and highly absorbing theatrical rock experience with actors re-enacting the storylines from both albums.

SleazeRoxx.com recently interviewed Queensryche vocalist Geoff Tate, who revealed that the band is currently working on a new album for a fall release.

We signed with a new record company, Rhino/Warner Brothers, and work with some wonderful people who are very interested in putting out releases. It’s a good team of people. We like to work and we like to put things out. It’s a team of people who like to do that, who are very creative and motivated. I think we might have found a really good match. It’s difficult because you would think that record companies would be interested in working, but a lot of times they can’t get themselves together, as in the case of our last record company, Sanctuary. So I think that’s why we’ve been so prolific lately is that they’re very motivated to work.

“Welcome to the Machine,” the first single from Queensrÿche’s new album, Take Cover, is being released on iTunes today. Queensrÿche pay tribute to some of their favorite songs with an adventurous collection of covers that range from Black Sabbath and The O’Jays to Italian opera and Broadway musical.

Singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate, guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone, bassist Eddie Jackson, and drummer Scott Rockenfield put their stamp on 11 classic tracks with Take Cover. The album is available November 13 at regular physical retail outlets.

Take Cover also features Queensrÿche’s distinctive arrangement of Pink Floyd’s “Welcome To The Machine,” an acoustic version of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” and a highly charged live version of U2′s “Bullet The Blue Sky.” “We’ll never top the originals; they’re classics for a reason,” Tate says. “We were more focused on finding different approaches that took the songs in unexpected directions.”
