Ryko to Distribute Gabriel’s Real World Records

Ryko will take over U.S. distribution for Peter Gabrielâ€™s Real World Records, including both digital and physical distribution of Real Worldâ€™s catalog and will re-issue many of the labelâ€™s back catalog titles. Peter Gabriel launched the world music-centric Real World Records in 1989. In a statement, Ryko Distribution President Jim Cuomo said, â€œJoining forces with Real World is a perfect complement to the artist-driven focus we have at Ryko and will enable us to reinforce Real Worldâ€™s stature as the standard-bearer in World Music. Gabriel’s WITNESS Launches Hub Project

Next month, Peter Gabriel’s human rights organization, WITNESS, will be launching its newest project: The Hub for human rights media and action. The Hub will be a grassroots-driven, participatory media website that will enable anyone anywhere in the world with access to the internet to upload, share, discuss and take action around human rights-related media and resources. Through the Hub, organizations, networks and groups around the world will be able to bring their human rights stories and campaigns to global attention. Learn more here.

Gabriel Not Interested in Reunion

NME.com reports what we already knew – Peter Gabriel won’t be joining the Genesis reunion.

I don’t think so… I don’t have any ideological objections, it’s just at the time it was expanding [and] I had other things I wanted to do. You have to think twice about making a bigtime commitment to something that is backward looking.

Gabriel also told Planet Rock Radio that he had been keen to see the band play in Rome recently, but had been unable to make the gig.

Gabriel to Perform at Mandela Concert

Peter Gabriel, Annie Lennox and Razorlight are just some of the artists set to take part in Nelson Mandela’s 46664 concert in Johannesburg on December 1. This will be the fifth show to take place in support of the 46664 HIV/AIDS campaign and the first to take place on World Aids Day.

Gabriel and Lennox have been involved with the 46664 project since the very beginning – both performed at the first concert in 2003.

US rapper Ludacris, big-ballad buccaneers The Goo Goo Dolls and the UK’s Jamelia and Corinne Bailey Rae are also set to appear at Ellis Park Stadium. The full line up of international artists will be announced by Mandela on October 29.

The former South African president had this to say about the event: “46664 is committed to HIV AIDS awareness and prevention. We create and support initiatives that deliver sustainable solutions to help combat the HIV AIDS pandemic that is so tragically affecting our world. We are grateful that the City of Johannesburg has made it possible for 46664 to stage our first World AIDS Day concert.Johannesburg has long asked for a concert to be held here and I am happy that we can now deliver to the people of Johannesburg. We look forward to being joined by thousands of citizens on that day.”
