AllAboutJazz.com Reviews One Shot’s “Ewaz Vader”

[kml_flashembed movie="http://youtube.com/v/EQAjE77R1xc" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]

AllaboutJazz.com’s John Kelman has reviewed “Ewaz Vader”, the latest release from the French prog-art-fusion outfit One Shot. Formed back in 1999 by members of Magma, One Shot released its first, self-titled album the same year. The group ultimately continued, releasing the live Vendredi 13 (2001) and now Ewaz Vader.

Ewaz Vader’s four extended tracks, all clocking in at between ten and fifteen minutes, are split compositionally amongst the three Magma alumni – This is not fusion for the faint-at-heart; this is fusion for those who like it complex and almost relentlessly intense. Still, despite that the group is no stranger to dynamics, creating plenty of tension and release on one of the freshest fusion albums in recent years.

Patrick Moraz “Live In Princeton” DVD

Recorded in New Jersey in 1995, this release will be the first time that this performance has been released on DVD although it was previously available as a VHS (unavailable for some time and is now a collectors item). As a bonus there is the promotional footage made to accompany Patricks debut solo album The Story Of I. This footage has not been seen since the initial release of that album and has been eagerly sought out by collectors and Patricks dedicated fan base. The sound reproduction on the DVD has also been personally overseen by Patrick Moraz as with the recent series of reissued CDs and the picture quality has been noticeably improved.
