Rush Documentary in the Works

RushIsABand is reporting that filmmaker Sam Dunn, the creative force behind the heavy metal documentary Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey, has received the band’s blessing to produce a documentary. Playbackmag.com has just posted a story on the project:

Boutique distributor Grindstone Media is hoping to have a hit on its hands with Rush: The Documentary. The $1.5 million feature doc about the famed rock band is produced and directed by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn. The doc will include new interviews with some of rock’s biggest names — including members of Metallica, Nirvana and Iron Maiden — plus never-before-seen footage shot by singer Geddy Lee himself, which Grindstone hopes will attract Canadian broadcasters.

Alan White to Join Zeppelin Opener?

It gets curiouser and curiouser. Chris Squire has reported the following:

Chris will be joining Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, and Simon Kirke to warm up the crowd for Led Zeppelin’s reunion gig at the Ahmet Ertegun memorial concert at the O2 Dome in London on November 26. After Chris and Alan White spoke on the phone on Wednesday it now seems almost 100% likely that Alan will join in as well.

Opeth’s ‘Roundhouse Tapes’ Available for Streaming

Opeth’s The Roundhouse Tapes is available for streaming in its entirety at MP3.com. Also, the concert will be released as a high-definition DVD in early 2008.

The Roundhouse concert will always be a very memorable gig for us for many reasons, but most importantly it caught the band at the peak of the ‘Ghost Reveries’ tour. I must say we’re quite tight after 18 odd months on the road supporting the record. I’m extremely pleased we got it documented and I hope it will please our beloved fans as well. As an extra bonus we’ve decided to collaborate with one of our past labels for this release, the legendary Peaceville Records. Here’s a toast to Hammy and Lisa for helping us back in the day as well as to the new team for preserving this pleasurable memory for today’s music lovers as well as for generations to come.

ukz.jpg

What’s this? Eddie Jobson has put together a ‘virtual’ band including A-listers Trey Gunn, Aaron Lippert (vocals), Alex Machacek (guitar) and Marco Minnemann (drums). Very interesting… From the official press release:

Returning from a self-imposed 27-year retirement from band and touring activity, keyboardist/electric violinist and UK co-founder, Eddie Jobson, set out to find the same caliber of next-generation musicians for the new UKZ project that would equal or surpass the talents of his previous colleagues and collaborators—an already impressive list that includes Frank Zappa, Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford, Phil Collins, John Entwistle, Ian Anderson, Simon Phillips, Terry Bozzio, Allan Holdsworth, and Tony Levin.
