Les Claypool’s first ever feature film, “Electric Apricot: Quest For Festeroo,” will be released in theaters Nov. 9th by National Lampoon. The mockumentary-style spoof is a comedic character study of four headstrong musicians trying to establish themselves in the jam scene. The film stars Claypool – who also wrote and directed the picture – as Lap “Lapdog” Miklovich, drummer for the fictional jam band Electric Apricot.
The movie takes you on a comedic ride with Electric Apricot as they navigate the jam scene, making their first record and their debut appearance at the one and only Festeroo. The movie features jam band legends including the Grateful Dead/Ratdog’s Bob Weir, Mike Gordon from Phish and Warren Haynes and Matt Abts from Gov’t Mule. There are even comedic cameos from Seth Green, Arj Barker and South Park’s Matt Stone.

The current issue of Acoustic Magazine chats with Ian about his new acoustic album, current tour and his music, of course. There’s also some speculation of a new Tull album in the Fall.
Can you tell us about the new album, The Best Of Acoustic Jethro Tull and what else Jethro Tull are up to?
It’s basically a selection of acoustic Jethro Tull stuff, spread through the years with a couple of recently recorded bonus tracks which are re-recordings of songs we’d done The Best of Acoustic Jethro Tull front coversomewhere in the past. There’s also a Jethro Tull Live In Montreux DVD scheduled for release later this year and another one that is recordings from various German concerts through the years – all live recordings that have never been released. Then there’s a new album which I’m about to start work on which will be recorded on and off over the next few months because we have some tours coming up, but it will be scheduled for release in September.

Symphonic rock icon Lana Lane proudly announces her new studio album “Red Planet Boulevard”. The new album follows Lana’s 2005 art rock masterpiece “Lady Macbeth”, and her highly acclaimed 2006 classic rock covers album “Gemini”. Red Planet Boulevard is a melodic rock album that showcases Lana’s legendary vocals with timeless songwriting all produced in a modern symphonic rock environment. The atmosphere of the album is both spacious and grand, soaring melodies and intimate phrases play against lush arrangements of guitar and keyboards, all intertwining in a compelling tango of orchestration that is pure Lana Lane.
GHS, maker of fine guitar strings, will produce a signature series with David Gilmour – both sets use the strings actually used by David on his Gibson Les Paul and Fender Stratocaster.
Gilmour has played GHS strings since ’79 when working on The Wall, but he’s used non-standard gauges that until now were not available in sets. Visit David’s website for more info.
